AfrikaBurn: A Spectacular Fusion of Art, Music, and Community

communal living in the desert. For one week, this barren landscape transforms into a vibrant playground of self-expression

and radical inclusion, drawing thousands of participants from around the globe.

mutant vehicles, and much, much more. All of this is created through a volunteer and gifting culture.

The main annual AfrikaBurn event takes place in the Tankwa Karoo, located between the Northern Cape and

Western Cape Provinces of South Africa, usually at the end of April every year.

A Glimpse

AfrikaBurn aims to be radically inclusive and accessible to anyone. The touchstone of value in our culture will always

be immediacy: experience before theory, moral relationships before politics, survival before services, roles before jobs,

ritual before symbolism, work before vested interest, participant support before sponsorship.

Born from the principles of Burning Man, AfrikaBurn emerged in 2007 as a regional offshoot of the iconic Nevada event.

Held annually in the Tankwa Karoo National Park, AfrikaBurn is a temporary experiment in community, art, and

radical self-reliance, where participants come together to create a temporary city of creative expression.

Futhermore, As participants arrive at Tankwa Town, they are greeted by the sight of colorful tents, makeshift structures,

and art installations rising from the desert floor. The city is alive with activity as people set up camp, decorate their vehicles,

and prepare for a week of creative exploration.
